About the Event
It's BYO, so you can toast with a shot of your favorite sports drink (or adult juice) before we enjoy this beautiful gem. Special thanks to Deandra for hosting this walk!
Agenda - Take Note! 6:00 p.m. - Meet and Greet in the parking lot at the Cope House. We'll walk to the picnic tables to chill for a bit. 6:30ish - WE ARE LEAVING! Not kidding...don't miss us!
We're going to take a nature stroll through this lovely arboretum and farm in Germantown, PERFECT FOR BEGINNERS SINCE IT'S ALL FLAT TERRAIN. This is a dog-friendly location but if you bring your pet, please keep them leashed.
"Tucked away in the historic Germantown neighborhood of Northwest Philadelphia, Awbury Arboretum is a vibrant landscape with a rich history. Once the private enclave of an extended Quaker family, Awbury Arboretum has been open to the public free of charge as a public park and arboretum for over 100 years. Its 56-acre historic landscape now stands as a green oasis in a densely populated urban environment. Nature, history, and community intersect at Awbury, and the Awbury Arboretum Association is committed to stewarding the relationships between these three pillars of our mission, and continuing to tell its story."
THESE WALKS AND STROLLS ARE CONTINGENT UPON THE WEATHER & WILL ONLY BE CANCELLED SHOULD THERE BE HEAVY RAIN AND WIND.
A Fun Challenge Nature will be all over you by the time we're done. This is a great event to talk and get to know other members. We'll be on the lookout for groundhogs, chickens, and goats. Wear regular sneakers with good traction. There are sections that can be muddy, so choose your footwear carefully.
Also suggested are a bottle of water and a bite to eat, such as a granola bar, fruit or trail mix. Bug spray and a hat/scarf are also helpful but not usually necessary. Much of the walk will be in shade and other areas in in full sun, so wear sunscreen. You may just need a light jacket in fall and spring, but be sure to layer, as you will warm up.
Bring your EpiPen or inhaler too (better safe than sorry). This is a very popular area that is frequented by people walking dogs; just be aware of your surroundings. Park in the parking lot near the Cope House or, if you're taking SEPTA, you'll need to give yourself time to walk to the Cope House.
## Driving to Cope House (1 Awbury Drive)
The main entrance to the Arboretum is located on Chew Ave. between Washington Lane and Haines Street. Turn into the Arboretum, bear left at the fork, and drive to the Cope House at the top of the driveway. The Cope House parking lot is located behind the house.
## Public transportation:
